As seen in images, Ford has rolled out its last unit of the current generation Aspire from its production facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The last unit from the production line can be seen as an indication to make way for the Aspire facelift in India this year. The images further reveal that the company has produced over 3 lakh units of the Aspire in India.
Ford had introduced the current generation Aspire in India way back in 2015 as the Figo Aspire. It was only in 2017 that the company dropped the Figo title from the moniker and called it as the Aspire. Back in February, Ford had announced discounts of up to Rs 58,000 on the Aspire sedan to boost up its sales and clear up the existing stocks.
Sometime by mid of this year, Ford is likely to launch the facelift version of the Aspire sedan. Apart from cosmetic and feature upgrades, the new Aspire is expected to be powered by a new Dragon petrol engine. It is believed that the Aspire facelift might share the 1.2-litre Dragon petrol engine that generates 94bhp/115Nm of torque with the upcoming Freestyle crossover which is due for launch next month. The diesel version will continue to be powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 99bhp of power and 200Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a five-speed manual gearbox and likely a five-speed automatic from the EcoSport.
Interestingly, Ford has also been working with Mahindra to introduce an electric version of the Aspire in 2019. As per the memorandum of understanding (MoU), both the companies will work together for three years over technology sharing and future development. Moreover, the electric version of the Aspire might turn out to be the most affordable electric car across the globe.
