As per its Facebook page, Ford India has officially announced that bookings for the new compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) EcoSport will start from June this year. Though it was the revolutionary 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine that was promoted as the Unique Selling Point (USP) for the vehicle, focus has now been shifted to technology features and high fuel efficiency figures. The spaciousness of this vehicle is another feature which is being highlighted.

Interestingly, it was revealed that several dealers in India had already started taking unofficial bookings for Ford EcoSport by charging Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 50,000 since December 2012, but this was stopped due to very high demand and lack of clarity about the launch from Ford. The company is expected to price the compact SUV between Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 12.50 lakh.

Coming back to the features in this vehicle, it would get a new Emergency Assistance System that is already available in more than 5 million Ford cars across the globe. This is a no-cost, non-subscription system which can deliver a critical message to emergency operators on its own, in case the vehicle has been involved in an accident. It also opens the line to conduct hands-free communication. Once the car is bought, this facility would be free for lifetime. Prior to starting the emergency call for help, the Sync system would give a 10 second window for deciding whether to continue or discontinue. When no cancellation is made in 10 seconds, the call will automatically be connected.

Ford would be exporting the EcoSport to more than 32 countries from its Chennai plant, the latest among destinations being Australia. The same vehicle being offered in India would be sold in Australia, albeit with some more features. Ford has also confirmed that export revenue would be used as leverage for pricing the vehicle competitively in India. The company is clearly leaving no stone unturned for ensuring the popularity of its compact SUV in the domestic market.
