Speaking his mind on the automatic EcoSport model, Joginder Singh, Managing Director (MD) and President, Ford India Private Limited, was quoted as saying, “We have been working long on the EcoSport automatic variant that will be a special package for our Indian customers. While the sales of automatic vehicles are gradually increasing, we are expecting good initial response for this variant. We have added many new smart features like rear park assist and a complimentary emergency assistance service for all new owners, which will be a boon for women drivers.”

Ford India would introduce four trim levels in its EcoSport range that are available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The stylish car would be offered in both manual and automatic transmission systems, a class leading feature among the current crop of compact SUVs plying on the Indian roads. With its automatic gearbox equipped EcoSport model, Ford India is expected to woo the urban women population who look for an easy-to-drive car in their garage. Automatic transmission provides effortless and comfortable driving experience without the hassle of changing gears.

Commenting on the overall driveability of EcoSport compact SUV, a Ford executive who was part of the EcoSport project, said, “It reduces driving effort by almost 60% over manual cars as it allows complete rest for the left leg and a single shift to move the car. Women drivers increasingly prefer these models for convenient driving.”

Upon its arrival on the Indian turf, Ford EcoSport would be the smallest SUV available in the domestic market. Its sub-4 metre exterior body length means that the car would benefit from the excise duty cut levied on such vehicles by the Indian government. As per industry reports, the new EcoSport could come within an introductory price band of Rs. 6 to 10 lakh in the domestic car market. The sporty little beast will take on the likes of Renault Duster, Mahindra Quanto and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in the compact utility vehicle segment.
