Due to rising concerns over the alarming air pollution levels in China, Ford and Chinese firm, Anhui Zotye Automobile Company have entered into a joint venture to build electric passenger cars in China. The upcoming electric cars will be built under a new brand for the China market.

Reports indicate that the Chinese government is investing heavily in research and development to encourage car manufacturers to launch new electric car projects.  Tesla, Daimler AG and General Motors are among the recent ones to announce their electric vehicle plans for China. The reports further indicate that the country wants electric cars and plug-in hybrids to make up at least a fifth of the country's auto sales by 2025.

Ford and Zotye Auto will each hold a 50 per cent stake in the joint venture. As of now, it is too early to comment on the development plans.More detailsin this regard will be known in the days to come.
