Force Motors, an Indian utility and commercial vehicle manufacturer, has revealed intentions to introduce its Gurkha 4x4 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the domestic market, somewhere around the second half of 2013. The upcoming Gurkha 4x4 is based on Mercedes Benz's iconic G Wagon SUV platform, which is shipped to various armies and European Union nations by the German auto major.

The yet-to-be launched Force Motors' Gurkha 4x4 is expected to pose some stiff competition against the Mahindra and Mahindra's (M&M) true blood Thar SUV, when it is launched in the country next year. Both the utility vehicles appear overtly mean in terms of overall exterior appearance and road presence, which would make their rivalry even more intense upon their face off.

The Gurkha SUV is anticipated to come trimmed with a number of refined interior and exterior attributes along with a compete revamp in its under-the-hood character. The rugged and classy SUV is anticipated to come fitted with a 2.2 litre diesel motor, which could churn out an impressive maximum power output close to 145 bhp and a decent peak torque delivery around 320 Nm. On the other hand, Mahindra Thar incorporates a 2.5 litre, 2498 cc, CRDe diesel motor that rolls out a peak power and torque equation of 105 bhp and 247 Nm. Respectively. Accordingly, the Force Gurkha looks like a better option as compared to Mahindra Thar in terms of power and performance ratings.

Mahindra Thar is offered to domestic utility vehicle aficionados between a price bracket starting from Rs. 4.5 lakhs and Rs. 7 lakhs in the Indian auto market. As per certain industry sources, Force Motors' Gurkha 4x4 is expected to be launched around a price tag of Rs. 5 to 6.5 lakhs in the country. The two rugged SUVs share pure off-roading DNA and match each other in most aspects. Thar definitely has an advantage over Gurkha in terms of easily availability of spare parts and auto components along with better service coverage provided by its maker on Indian soil. Hence, some fireworks are expected in the domestic utility vehicle market when Force Motors' Gurkha 4x4 gets involved in a turf war with Mahindra Thar in 2013.
