The Ranjangaon manufacturing unit from Fiat is finally humming with activity. The first Fiat Linea rolled out from the assembly line on November 21. Fiat is betting high on its latest model Linea and hopes to impress the Indian customer with complete image makeover. Fiat has first come to India into manufacturing with Premier Automobiles. It has now shed its ghosts from the past and has shook hands with Tata Motors.

Fiat has earlier faced problems in India with Fiat Uno, Palio hatchback, Palio Adventure and Siena sedan. It lacked the understanding of the Indian market which was further nailed down by low motivated dealers and insufficient after sales service.

Now Fiat has got together with Tata Motors to form Fiat India Automobiles Limited with equal stakes of both the companies. The Ranjangaon unit still has Palio/ Indica assembly line accompanied by a new ultra modern body and shop that ranks as one of the most sophisticated unit in auto manufacturing sector in India. The complete shop of making body units is handled by 19 robots.

Fiat plans to launch Linea shortly in India and wants to make a fresh entry in the country. The commercial launch of the model is planned for mid-December 2008. The car will be distributed by Fiat-Tata dealers across the country.
