Fiat India is planning to bring a CNG variant of its model Grande Punto in the Indian market. The model will be available in the country by second quarter of 2010. Since LPG is costlier than CNG, new Fiat Punto CNG model will be a cost-saving model for the customers. Fiat is also planning to bring a new small car in the Indian market by 2012. The company intends to generate volumes in the country and has geared its operations in India to a brand building image. It adopted a top down approach of introducing premium models like Fiat 500 and Fiat Linea to be introduced prior to small car models. Fiat will also be bringing more powerful engines for its Linea soon.

Fiat currently has 50:50 joint venture with Tata Motors in India. It retails its models in India through Tata Motors showrooms. However, it holds rights to retail Tata Nano in the overseas market. Fiat has its production facility at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra with an installed capacity of producing 2 lakh units, and 3 lakh engines and auto accessories.
