The fourth generation Fiat Punto was spied on the South American streets. The spotted vehicle wears a heavy camouflage which hints at an overhauled exterior.

The third-generation Fiat Punto made a debut in the year 2005 and hit the Indian shores by late 2009. The Punto is a dying flame for the manufacturers, although Fiat has kept it burning with timely facelifts and other cosmetic changes. Recently, Fiat discontinued the Punto in the European, South African and South American markets to fit in their other hatch backs, although a recent report suggests that the manufacturers will bring back the upgraded hatchback with the same Punto badge.

The new Punto will not carry same old platform developed jointly by Opel and Fiat together but will be based on the Fiat designed SCCS platform. The new vehicle is expected to go under drastic cosmetic changes on the exterior and the manufacturers will also spruce up the interior with the addition of premium features.

The next generation Fiat Punto is very likely to hit the Indian market, and is expected to make a debut here in India by late 2018. The current Punto sold in India received a slightly tuned ‘90hp’ variant and a hatchback-based crossover in its line-up. Yet the manufacturers gained only a three digit sale number. When it is launched in the Indian market, the new Fiat Punto will continue to compete against Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Etios Liva, Volkswagen Polo and the Hyundai i20.
