Fiat is currently struggling to increase its market share in the highly competitive Indian car market. The company is considering various products from its global portfolio, and is regularly importing cars for R&D and testing purpose. The Italian automaker is likely to introduce its Jeep and Abarth brands in the country this year. If media reports are to be believed, the maker is also planning to launch 500L and Panda for the Indian market. Recently, the maker imported the 500L MPV and now the Panda hatchback has been imported in our market for testing purpose.

Interestingly, Fiat has imported the 4x4 version of the Panda for testing. This variant is powered by a 1.3-litre multi-jet diesel engine that churns out 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque. We believe that the maker should consider the front wheel drive version of the Panda hatchback. However, the 4x4 version could be benefited with growing popularity of more aggressive pseudo crossovers in India. It features plastic body cladding and has bigger 15-inch wheels. The car has a full-time all-wheel drive system with two differential locks for serious off-roading. Both automatic and manual version of the Panda could make way to India.

The Fiat Panda is a tall boy hatchback and has muscular wheel arches, familiar single-slat chrome grille, big headlamps, large bumper with uniquely designed air dams and stylish fog lamps. The hatchback features black plastic cladding, roof rails and stylish alloy wheels, which offers aggressive styling. If Fiat is planning to launch Panda hatch, then the company needs to heavily localise the car to price it competitive in the market.
