The Italian car maker Fiat on Monday started an offer in which lucky buyers can get the diesel version of its Punto hatchback and Linea sedan at the same price as petrol versions of the cars.

In a statement given on Monday, Rajeev Kapoor, president and chief executive, FIAT India, said, "With the rise in petrol prices, diesel cars make for an even more attractive proposition. Fiat has been leading the diesel revolution across the world and even in India." The company believes that customers would prefer to buy a diesel car due to the low running costs but are deterred because of high initial premium levied on them.

Moreover, a few lucky customers will stand a chance to win free fuel vouchers for one year. In addition to this, the buyers who will exchange their old cars for Linea or Punto will get an exchange bonus of up to Rs 20,000.

Fiat currently sells its cars in the Indian market in partnership with Tata Motors, using Tata’s sales and service network throughout the country. Despite having some of the most competitive cars in its India portfolio like Punto and Linea, the company is not able to perform as per expectations.
