Recently a study was conducted in Europe to assess the eco-friendliness of major automobile models in the continent. Fiat has emerged as the leader as the automotive research group JATO termed Fiat as the auto manufacturer with lowest weighted CO2 emission volumes amongst all the global players in Europe. "These are important figures as they show not just the environmental impact of one or two of our cars, but the whole range," said Andrew Humberstone, managing director of Fiat for the UK and Ireland.

Fiat Automobiles has logged the lowest average value for CO2 emissions of cars sold in 2009: 127.8 g/km (it was 133.7 g/km in 2008). This is lowest as compared to other leading brands viz., Toyota (130.1 g/km), Peugeot (133.6 g/km), Renault (137.5 g/km), Citroen (137.9 g/km), Ford (140.0 g/km), Opel/Vauxhall (148.9 g/km), Volkswagen (150.4 g/km), AUDI (160.9 g/km) and Mercedes (176.4 g/km). These figures were taken by averaging the emissions of cars sold off in Europe in past one year.

Fiat Grande Punto emerges as the favourite choice amongst used car buyers who wish to keep an eye on their budget and yet want an equally eco-friendly car.
