The Ferrari Challenge series which celebrates its 25th anniversary next year will see the sixth edition 2017-spec 488 Challenge participating at the event. The Italian sports carmaker unveiled the upcoming vehicle at the Finali Mondiali event in Daytona. The new model comes as a replacement to the older 458 Challenge EVO.

Powered by a 3.9-litre V-8 engine, for the first time in the series’ history, the car gets turbochargers. The vehicle gets shorter gear ratios for optimised racing performance. The vehicle also gets the Slip Control (SSC) software which has been integrated into the vehicle’s electronic dynamic controls and is calibrated, along with the traction control and E-Diff3. This helps in offering maximum traction when corning, turning and accelerating out of corners. The company also claims that the 488 Challenge is about a second faster than the 458 Challenge EVO.

The front gets a new bumper with more pronounced splitters and flicks to help increase downforce and also help balance the rear load. The vehicle also gets new bonnet with triple vents and integrated flaps for increased airflow and radiator heats rearwards. The intake on the rear flanks allow ample air to cool the rear brakes and also help with improved downforce. The engine section gets lateral air intakes which are positioned under the rear spoiler for maximum cooling.
