Ferrari, whose cars are seen as a symbol of wealth, speed and luxury, recently unveiled its highly anticipated sports car 488GTB ahead of the 2015 Geneva Motor show. The all-new 488 GTB is the successor to one of the most successful Ferraris, the 458 GTB. With this model, it is quite evident that sports car makers all around world are adopting turbochargers to improve the performance of their cars. Ferrari also went the same road with its new 488 GTB where the GTB stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta. The first GTB to be exposed to the world was the 308 GTB almost 40 years ago.

The new sports car will come equipped with a 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 engine, capable enough of producing 661 bhp of maximum power and 560 lb-ft of peak torque. This is almost 64 bhp and 162 lb-ft more than its predecessor, the 458 GTB, even though the engine displacement is reduced. The engine outshines almost all its rivals in the segment including its biggest rival, the McLaren 650S. This new turbocharged engine is capable of reaching a speed of 100 kmph in just 3 seconds and 200 kmph in about 8.3 seconds. The new Ferrari reaches a top speed of 330 kmph, which is enough to leave a driver spellbound.

The dimensions of the new 488 GTB are very similar to the older 458 Italia. The car measures 4568 mm in length, 1952 mm in width and 1213 mm in height, and weighs around 1370 kg. Its design has been modified and made even more aerodynamic by increasing the downforce and reducing the drag. One of its most notable features is the new ‘blown’ rear spoiler that gives the car active aerodynamics and channels the air from the base of the glass engine cover, under spoiler. This leads to the car having 50 per cent more downforce than the 458 Italia. Along with this, there is a plethora of new features added to the car like a revised side slip control 2 system, F1-Trac system and E-diff system, which increase the 488 GTB's stability and reduced the risk of sliding off.
