BMW is readying a mid-life update to its 2-Series Active Tourer and here we have the first ever spy shots of the facelifted car, spotted at the BMW’s Munich headquarters.

Judging by the minimal camouflaging on the fascia and rear bumper of the test mule, the 2-Series too will likely receive only minor updates, just like the 4 Series. Modifications to the car may include a new LED lighting signature, currently followed by the entire BMW range. The prototype spotted here is the 225xe iPerformance variant, which is their top-of-the-line hybrid. We reckon that the facelift will also include an updated cabin, new upholstery and fancy alloy wheels. The powertrain, however, will be carried over, but with improved efficiency.

BMW recently announced a long line-up of over 40 models across its three brands in the next two years. These 40 vehicles would include both new models and upgraded models of the current product line-up. The facelifted 2-Series Active Tourer could be a part of this plan and may be showcased later this year.

Based on the Mini platform, the 2-Series Active Tourer is the first front-wheel driven BMW. In the iPerformance guise, it employs a 1.5-litre, twin-turbo, three pot gasoline engine with an electric motor for a combined power output of 220bhp. The standard version comes with two petrol and two diesel engine options.
