The Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque have become the two most successful models for Land Rover globally. Both the cars due for their mid-life update in 2018 and Land Rover is all set to give them more horsepower.
Both the cars run the new 2015 Ingenium series of engines to phase out the more-than-a-decade old powertrains across their line-up. The Ingenium series of engines are modular and turbocharged mills that can be built in three, four or six cylinder configurations with each cylinder displacing 500cc. The first set of 2.0-litre turbocharged engines were available in the 197bhp and 237bhp setups for the petrol and 148bhp and 177bhp setups for the diesel mill.
The MY2018 cars will get the 286bhp and 400Nm torque setup of the 2.0-litre petrol Ingenium engine while the diesel engine will pump out 237bhp of power and 340Nm of torque and will come mated to the existing nine-speed automatic transmission, a standard on all latest Land Rovers. The higher output will help the crossover SUVs to compete against the likes of Mercedes GLC, the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 along with the upcoming Volvo XC60.
India being a strategically important market for JLR, we expect them to bring the new engine setups to India immediately after the global launch as the Discovery Sport and the Evoque have been the company’s bestsellers in the subcontinent as well.
