German luxury car maker Mercedes Benz has introduced the latest version of the M Class Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in India. The automotive giant has presented a truly revamped version of the sporty model and delivered a refined vehicle that can easily combat the worst terrains as well as rivals like Audi Q7 and BMW X5. It will be available in two trims in India, the base variant that is built using Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits at Rs. 56.9 lacs and the higher end variant with AMG body kit at Rs. 66 lacs. The company has decided to sell only 100 units of the latter, which will be imported to the country as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).

At the M Class launch event, Peter Honegg, Managing Director and Chief Executive Director (CEO), Mercedes Benz India, commented, “At the start of this year we had promised to introduce exciting new models into the market. We are proud to present today the New M Class, built to perform with the highest precision and follows the Mercedes-Benz new design language. We are confident that the quality of drive and the luxurious experience it can deliver will be a big hit with the customers and it will be warmly received.”

Aggressive yet elegant, the new ML350CDI is a powerful vehicle that will run on the uptuned 3.0 L, 24 valve, V6 turbo Bluetec diesel engine. This motor can generate maximum power of 258 bhp at 3600 rpm and highest torque of 1600-2400 rpm, which is more than that of its predecessor. This finetuned engine will be supplemented with the seven speed 7G-TRONIC that will make gear changes easier. The top speed of the car is 224 kmph, which is a respectable figure for any SUV, and will be able to throttle from naught to 100 kmph in just 7.4 seconds. Mercedes Benz has even managed to push the mileage of the car 20 to 28 per cent higher even while making it a better off-road performer.

The off-roading experience provided by the 3rd generation M Class makes it one of the best in its segment as it can easily tackle any kind of surface with utmost ease, while traversing through city roads fluidly. It comes with a host of features that make driving on adverse terrains easier, such as electric power steering, low rolling resistance tyres and automatic Start/Stop system. For driver and vehicular safety on all terrains, the 3rd generation Mercedes Benz M Class has been equipped with a host of features, such as Active Park Assist, Attention Assist drowsiness detection, Speed Limit Assist and Blind Spot Assist.

Mercedes Benz has provided many other safety features in the latest M Class in India, namely PreSafe pre-collision protection, tire-pressure monitor, adaptive brake lights, nine airbags and electronic brake assist. Along with these, Intelligent Light System, Night View Assist Plus with automatic person recognition, Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control, Active Park Assist, reverse camera and autonomous braking are also present in the car to make the ride safer. Other exciting features that make the new ML350CDI a coveted vehicle are Airmatic Air Suspension, 20 inch AMG body styling and alloy wheels, Designo leather interiors and mini spare wheel, Attention Assist and reversing camera.

With heavy anticipation in the domestic market for the new M Class, the company would have expected good sales volumes. However, even Mercedes Benz would not have been ready for 150 orders for the model on the day of its launch itself. This means that all the 100 AMG variants in India have already been scooped up by buyers who headed to the showroom on the first day.
