Ford will launch a performance oriented electric SUV in 2020 and will call it Mach 1. For those familiar with Ford history, the Mach 1 nameplate was used for high performance Mustangs right from the 1960s all the way to 2004. The Mach 1 will be an electric performance SUV. Yes, the Mach 1 moniker will GO down the same road as the Mitsubishi Eclipse but hopefully in a legendary name.

Lamenting history aside, the project will be under the guidance of Ford’s electric division, Team Edison, and will have battery electric vehicles underpinned by a unique platform. Lastly, we know that it will be built at Ford’s main plant in Detroit which we believe is being updated to build the electric cars of the future. The automaker has already said that it is going to build a hybrid Mustang in the future.
