A not so good for brands like Mahindra, which has majorly developed diesel engines. The UVs in the Indian car market are mostly diesel. So, buyers of diesel SUVs are likely to shift to buying a petrol SUV or another vehicle itself. So, models like Tata Safari Storme, Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Xylo and the Mahindra XUV500 will be the worst hit. Diesel produces more pollution than its petrol equivalent and hence this new law has been passed.

This is going to help sales of automakers that are stronger with petrol engines, like Honda, Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki. Small cars are mostly diesel engine powered and this will be seeing a further increase in its number. Most of the compact sedans and premium hatchbacks have a waiting on their petrol engines and this is likely to increase further.
