Datsun Redigo 1.0-litre is set to be launched India tomorrow. The Japanese carmaker had already commenced bookings for the potent hatch earlier this month.
Apart from a tiny 1.0 badge on the boot lid, there isn’t any visual difference that set apart the 1.0-litre Redigo from its smaller capacity version. All the design elements of the tall-boy hatch are present, including meshed hexagonal grille, creased bumpers, boomerang-shaped taillights and the protruding tailgate. On the inside, the cabin remains spacious, both at the front and back. The Redigo will be sold in two trims – T(O) and S. Both the variants will have piano black finish for the centre console, fabric seats, central locking, 2-DIN music system and power windows. However, safety features like daytime running lamps and driver airbags are exclusive to the more expensive S trim.
Based on the same CMF-A as the Renault Kwid, the Redigo 1.0-litre is powered by the three-cylinder petrol motor putting out 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. The transmission would be a five-speed manual initially, but we could expect Datsun to offer the Redigo with an AMT a few months down the line.
Datsun is expected to price the 1.0-litre Redigo higher than the 800cc variants by around Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000. It will enter the A-Segment hatchback segment dominated by the likes of Hyundai Eon 1.0, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Renault Kwid 1.0.
