      Datsun Redi-Go based hatchback launch in 2016

      With an objective to increase its market share in the highly competitive Indian car market, the company is planning to roll out several new products in the next 2 years. The company that revived its low cost car brand - Datsun - for emerging markets like India, and has already launched two products under this - Go and GO+. The company is now planning to launch yet another affordable car in the country by early 2016.

      The third Datsun car will be an entry-level car, which will be positioned below the Go hatchback to lock horn with the Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. It is likely to be based on the Redi-Go concept, which was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show. The small car will be built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-A platform that will also underpin the upcoming Renault XBA (Kayou) hatchback.

      The small car is expected to be priced around Rs. 2.5 lakh. It will be powered by a new 800cc, three-cylinder petrol engine that is expected to churn out 50PS of power. Both five-speed manual or automated manual transmissions will be on offer.

      Currently, the Japanese carmaker sells Datsun products through Nissan's dealerships in most cities. But it is planning to have at least 60 exclusive Datsun dealerships in the country by 2016, with special focus on tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
