The new and updated Datsun GO and GO Plus has been launched in India for the price of Rs 3.29 and Rs 3.83 respectively. Both cars are available in one single powertrain. The mid-life update comes with added features and a much needed cosmetic changes.

The GO hatchback and its mini-estate version now arrive with subtle changes which come in the form of the redesigned bumper which now also include vertical LED daytime running strips integrated into the blacked-out insert. The grille has been slightly tweaked and the overall appearance looks a lot more appealing than before. The rear bumper also gets subtle changes to keep things fresh. Moreover, both the cars now get the option of 14-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels for the first time. The update also debuts two new body colours – Amber Orange and Sunstone Brown – respectively.

The most important and much-needed update comes on the inside. The entire dashboard has been restyled with the centre console debuting a 6.75-inch touchscreen infotainment system for the first time which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also new is the instrument cluster, a proper glove box this time as opposed to the open one on the previous model, and a conventional handbrake lever between the seats. The feature list sees new additions in terms of power windows, electrically adjustable mirrors, rear parking sensors, dual front airbags, and rear window wipers.

Under the skin, things remain unchanged. So the pair continues to be powered by the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol motor which puts out 67bhp and 104Nm and comes mated to the five-speed manual transmission. Although the duo gets a CVT transmission in international markets, we can expect an AMT in India but that will happen sometime later.
Launching just ahead of the festive season, the Datsun GO and GO Plus demands a slightly higher premium compared to the older model owing to the added features. It continues to rival the entry-level hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Hyundai Eon, Renault Kwid apart from its sibling, the Redi-GO.
