After the huge success of the Duster SUV, which was launched in July this year, Renault now plans to launch the Dacia Lodgy MPV in India. The Dacia is a 7 seat, three row MPV, which is known to be very spacious and comfortable. When launched in the country, Dacia Lodgy will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which has created a mark for itself in the Indian auto market.

As the Lodgy shares a lot of mechanicals with the Duster, it is believed that it would be relatively easy for Renault to manufacture it in the country. The Duster is based on the same platform on which the globally acclaimed Logan is built. Just like the Duster and Logan, it is being speculated that Lodgy would not only be reliable and robust, but would come at a competitive price.

The base variant of the Lodgy MPV will be powered by a 1.5 litre K9K turbo diesel engine and would come mated with a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox. The powertrain is likely to churn out a maximum power of 84 bhp and a peak torque of around 200 Nm. It is expected that the Lodgy would come with a host of comfort and safety features, which include ABS, EBD and front airbags.

While there is no official statement about the launch date of the Lodgy, it is expected that the Lodgy would be showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and would hit the roads in the country by mid of that year. The base variant of Dacia Lodgy is likely to come with a price tag of around Rs. 6 lacs.
