Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered vehicles in Delhi and adjoining NCR need to display the compliance plates indicating valid cylinder, in order to be allowed refilling. This has been declared by Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), which is the sole supplier of CNG in the capital and adjoining areas. Issuing a statement with respect to the same, the company said, “IGL would be refusing CNG dispensing to all categories of vehicles without a compliance plate indicating valid CNG cylinder with effect from August 1, 2013.”
As per safety norms for CNG vehicles, the compliance plate that displays kit information needs to be installed adjacent to the filling point, so that it can be easily noticed by the refueller. It was earlier stated that IGL would implement this rule from June 1, 2013 and started a media campaign for the same. With respect to this, a statement issued by the company stated, “However, subsequent to the public notice dated May 22 issued by Transport Department, Government of Delhi, IGL has now decided to extend the date of implementation of instructions by two months to ensure uniformity.” Based on the latest public notice from the Transport department, CNG vehicle owners have been asked to fit these compliance plates at the earliest in order to avoid any inconvenience.
A public notice issued by the Transport Department states that all CNG vehicle owners have to get compliance plates fitted by July 31 from the concerned authorised fitting centres. No extra costs are to be charged, as compliance plates are part of the complete CNG kit. The gas authority said, "IGL has requested all concerned for co-operation in complying with the prescribed requirement as this is directed towards ensuring safety of general public.” For spreading this information, IGL has already put up posters at all the CNG filling stations, apart from handing over pamphlets to CNG vehicle drivers in person. Radio spots have also been run on several leading FM channels. At present, IGL sells CNG to automobiles across 287 stations in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.
