      A few years back, no one would have thought that Honda would provide competition to Maruti Suzuki in India. Even though the Japanese car maker is popular in India, it is far behind the country's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in all aspects. However, the launch of Amaze compact sedan has turned this entire scenario upside down as this model has become one of the most successful in the market. Honda Amaze, currently, is one of the top models in the sedan segment, which is providing competition to the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Fiat Linea, Ford Classic and Chevrolet Sail. Some analysts have also compared this model to Maruti Suzuki SX4, which generated tremendous buzz at the time of its launch.

      Maruti Suzuki SX4 has been present in the Indian car market for a long time now. This model is marketed with the punch line 'For Boys Who Grow Up to Be Men', thereby projecting it as a car with a bold design. In fact, the firm goes ahead and says that this car is for men on the website, where it is written, “Did you dream of growing up to be the man who lives for the thrill of speed? Who believes in pushing limits? Who control's a machines as powerful as your spirit? The new Maruti Suzuki SX4 powered by the Super Turbo Diesel Engine is what you've been waiting for. It answers to your desire to conquer every twist and turn. It's the car for boys who grow up to be men.” This car has earned a number of accolades in the recent past, winning the Adventure Trial Version at Raid-de-Himalaya and Best Mid Sized Car by JD Power 'APEAL STUDY 2012'.

      SX4 comes in bold design that features a sporty chrome grill and a dual-coloured front bumper, which provides a contrasting look. In addition, electronically foldable ORVMs with turn indicators add to the elegance of this model. The highlights of this car are its interiors that boast of dual-tone dashboard, cubic printing on door armrest, luxurious upholstery and chrome finish on inside door handles. This model is available in petrol, CNG and diesel versions. Petrol variant of SX4 is powered by a 16-valve DOHC VVT engine that has a displacement of 1586 cc. This engine has the capability of delivering an output of around 102.7 bhp along with a peak torque of 145 Nm. Diesel version, on the other hand, is fitted with a 1.3-litre powertrain that generates an output of approximately 88 bhp and top torque of 200 Nm.

      Honda Amaze is a compact sedan based on the Brio platform, which has got excellent reviews worldwide. This models boasts of an attractive design that comprises an appealing front grille, eye-catching headlamps, stylish alloy wheels and attractive rear combi lamps. Notably, this car has a low turning radius of 4.5 metres, which is quite impressive. Honda has done great work with interiors of this car, providing balance between technology and comfort. Main features of Amaze's interiors are power folding ORVM, advanced audio system and sporty speedometer.

      This compact sedan is available in both diesel and petrol engine options. Petrol version of Honda Amaze is equipped with a 1.2-litre i-VTEC powertrain that delivers an output of 86 bhp approximately. On the other hand, Amaze diesel runs on the highly acclaimed 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine that produces a power level of around 98 bhp. Diesel version of this car renders an excellent mileage figure of 25.8 kmpl.

      Both Honda Amaze and Maruti Suzuki SX4 have their pros and cons. While SX4 is a powerful vehicle with a bold styling, Amaze is technologically advanced and renders fantastic mileage.
