Hyundai is developing a new compact SUV for developed markets and it has been spooted doing the rounds in the USA, alebit in a camouflaged guise. It sports a square (ish) profile. Going by the size of the vehicle, it is about the size of the Kona, which is the smallest car that the South Korean automaker sells in the US market.

Word on the interweb is that this will be a second model to sell alongside the Kona but where the Kona is a crossover, this will have an old school SUV design. This is a common strategy for Hyundai, used across the range where it sells multiple models in a segment to gain collective volumes. This vehicle is expected to make use of the same engine and underpinnings as the Kona. Possibly, even the interiors could be shared to keep costs control.

In countries like India, Hyundai already have the Creta and by next year, the production version of the QXi (sub 4 metre). Kia too is expected to produce a similar model and will place its compact SUV for the US market in the same segment.
