Citroen Malaysia has launched the five-seater Citroen C4 Picasso at an event in Putrajaya, Malaysia for RM 148,888 (Rs 22.51 lakh). This is a smaller version of the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso that comes with seven seats and is already available in the market for RM 185,888 (Rs 28.11 lakh). You can do the math and immediately see the savings of RM 37,000 (Rs 5.59 lakh) over its bigger sibling. A choice worth considering if you don’t need the extra seats. The five-seater Citroen boasts a shorter wheelbase of 2,785mm over the Grand C4 Picasso’s wheelbase of 2,840 mm. The new car also measures 4,428mm in length (lesser by 169mm) while the width and height of 1,826mm and 1,625mm remain identical to the bigger sibling.

Aside from being smaller, the C4 Picasso also has unique styling cues to differentiate it from the GC4P. The front-end gets a larger lower grille, the integrated roof rails are gone and replaced by C-shaped chrome window surrounds. The tail lights have been changed to lend a subtle look and retain Citroen’s 3D effect LED light signature design. The C4 Picasso gets the same turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder motor with an output of 165bhp and 240Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The manufacturer claims the C4 Picasso can do the acceleration run from 0-100kmph in 9.3sec and go on to max out at 210kmph. On the equipment front, the C4 Picasso misses out on the bigger GC4P’s 18-inch “Python” alloy wheels (comes with a 17-inch alloy), uses a different fabric for its seats, drops the panoramic roof and the 360-degree surround view system.

However, it retains the adaptive bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and tail lights, a powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, a massage function for the front seats and all the other features that come on the bigger GC4P. All safety features also find their way on to the new car; six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control, traction control, hill-assist, blind spot monitoring, active seat belts and ISOFIX child seat mounts on all three rear seats. The Citroen C4 Picasso will be available in three new colours; bleu kyanos (blue), gris aluminium (grey) and rouge rubi (red), noir onyx (black) and blanc banquise (white).
