The announcement by General Motors to bring Chevrolet Trailblazer Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) to India has generated tremendous amount of excitement in the country’s car market. According to a report by NDTV, the firm had imported two units of the SUV to India for Research & Development purposes, which is a clear indicator of General Motor’s eagerness to launch the car in the country. Experts believe that the launch of Chevrolet Trailblazer is likely to increase competition in India’s SUV segment and the current leader, Toyota Fortuner, could well see a dip in sales.

At present Toyota’s full-fledged SUV is the best performing vehicle in its category and rightly so. However, Chevrolet Trailblazer has done really well in international markets. Reports suggest that it has all the makings of a top class SUV. Trailblazer is likely to come to India in a diesel version that will be powered by a 2.8-litre engine, which churns out a power level of around 180 BHP and peak torque of 470 Nm. Chevrolet is expected to offer buyers a choice between six-speed automatic and five-speed manual transmission.

Chevrolet has managed to create a reasonably good reputation for itself in the Indian market, which is likely to help it when the Trailblazer is launched. Experts believe that if Chevrolet Trailblazer has to overtake Toyota Fortuner or even compete with it, features and pricing are going to be really important. In terms of features, Trailblazer is going to come with Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and airbags.

Toyota Fortuner is a solid SUV that has been performing exceptionally well in India since its launch. This model is available in two diesel variants, which are powered by 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre engines. The 3.0-litre version of Toyota Fortuner delivers an output of around 169 BHP.
