      Chevrolet Tavera to Have BS IV Compliant Engines

      General Motors is planning to upgrade its Tavera model in the Indian market. The model will soon feature a new BS IV compliant engine meeting the new emission norms. The engine will be sourced from Sonalika Group. "We concluded the agreement last week and now have partnered with International Cars and Motors Ltd (ICML) to roll out the BS IV version of Tavera", General Motors India Managing Director Karl Slym said.

      The new engine being fitted in Tavera will further be capable of being uplifted to BS V norms later on. The new Tavera will be slightly costlier than the existing model with its new 2.0L CRDi engine. General Motors has so far invested Rs. 5,000 crores in India and has its manufacturing facilities at Halol in Gujarat and Talegaon in Maharastra. The Talegaon unit manufactures both petrol and diesel engines for various models under Chevrolet brand including SUV Captiva, midsize sedan Optra, premium sedan Cruze, midsize sedan Aveo, hatchbacks Aveo U-VA,Spark, Beat and SUV Tavera.

      General Motors is also planning to introduce light commercial vehicles and two new cars in India in next two years.
