The Indian arm of General Motors has introduced a new base variant of Sail U-VA hatchback to Indian audience at a price tag of Rs. 5.2 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, it must be noted that this information has been updated on the official website of the company, including details of the new model and none of the company officials have announced the same. With the launch of a new model, the auto maker has targeted the dominant position of Maruti Suzuki Swift, which has been ruling this segment from a long time.
Industry experts are of a view that since Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatchback was unable to create a buzz among the Indian buyers at the time of its launch, the model has to sustain a strong fight in the near future. However, some also said that considering the penchant of domestic buyers towards diesel models, coupled with right pricing by Chevrolet will surely facilitate the new model to cash in the hatchback segment. It must be also noted that the auto maker has already reduced the prices of its Sail U-VA petrol hatch few days back and brought its base price to Rs 4.1 lakh from the earlier Rs. 4.4 lakh, in order to pull in some decent volumes at the fiscal end. With these moves, auto analysts believe that the American car maker seems in full swing to make its much acclaimed model affordable for a large section of society.
The recently introduced diesel guise of the all new Sail U-VA is expected to house the same number of features, which are offered in its entry level petrol sibling. Therefore, the model is expected to have features like air conditioner, tilt adjust steering wheel, power windows in front, electrically adjustable outer rear view mirrors, fuel lid opener and remote boot opener, amid others. Experts believe that all these features and advancements will surely make this model a good deal at Rs. 5.2 lakh in the premium compact car segment. However, features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Break-force Distribution (EBD), airbags, advanced music system, wiper at rear and defogger will not be seen in the new model.
