There has been a trend of introducing sedan facelift versions of hatchback cars in the Indian circuit, and Chevrolet Sail sedan is set to be the latest to join the club. Maruti Swift’s sedan version Swift DZire has been immensely popular and cars like Tata Indigo and Nissan Sunny, which have been inspired from Indica and Micra, respectively, have also done good business. Also, Honda Brio Amaze, the sedan counterpart of premium hatchback Honda Brio is set to hit Indian roads next year. General Motors is looking to offer an attractive sedan car based on their recently launched Sail to woo Indian customers. It is speculated that the new car will join the fleet of General Motors in January 2013.

The company has stated on its website about the design of Sail sedan, “The appeal of the sculpted dynamic exterior form is matched by an equally stunning Corvette inspired Dual-Cockpit and “Horizon View” dashboard and pleasing interiors.” The company has also hinted on the active and passive features that the car will be equipped with. Speed Sensitive AUTO DOOR LOCKS, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) are the safety features in the car. It will also include airbags, seat belts with pre-tensioner, crumple zones, Collapsible Steering System and Side Impact Beams, which will render the driver as well as passengers additional safety, a best-in-class aspect.

The car will have both petrol and diesel variants with a 1.3L SMARTECH Turbo-charged engine mated to the premium F17 super-slick transmission running on diesel, while a 1.2L SMARTECH engine with Dual Overhead Camshafts mated to the SH 63 Transmission will power the petrol variant. With smooth steering, impressive suspension and advanced braking systems, the car is perfectly suited for Indian road conditions.

The advanced infotainment system of the car will include FUN WIDE Bluetooth phone pairing & music streaming. Further, customer satisfaction is guaranteed with a unique 3-5-3 Advantage, according to which warranty and after-sales services have been considerably extended.

With carmakers doing low business in 2012, it will be difficult to speculate whether Sail sedan will be able to find many takers in 2013, especially with the introduction of the much-awaited Honda Brio Amaze.
