General Motors' latest offering, the Chevrolet Enjoy, is scheduled to be officially launched in India on May 9, 2013. This Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) would be a strong competitor to the current segment leader, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Most vehicle specifications are evenly matched, which clearly shows that the battle will be an interesting one for market leadership.

In terms of engines, both vehicles come with petrol and diesel motors. The Ertiga is powered by a 1.4 litre K-Series VTVT petrol engine that generates 94 bhp of power and 130 Nm of torque. Its diesel version has a retuned version of the 1.3 litre DDiS powertrain, which churns out a power output of 89 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque. Relatively speaking, the new Enjoy MPV is expected to come fitted with a 1.4 petrol motor to produce a maximum power of 96 bhp and 128 Nm of torque. Another motor would be the 1.3 litre diesel engine that produces 92 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. Clearly, there is nothing much to choose here between the two vehicles.

Interior space in the Enjoy appears to be more than in the Ertiga. The first and second rows of seats in the Maruti MPV are very comfortable, but only small kids can sit in the last row. Additionally, if the third row is used, it leaves little space for luggage. With longer dimensions, the Chevrolet Enjoy seems to have more space for passengers and luggage. Both rear and second row of seats can be folded to create additional space. While the Ertiga is 4265 mm long, Chevrolet Enjoy stands at 4300 mm. Further, ground clearance is almost the same in both vehicles, at 185 mm.

The Enjoy comes with a chrome surrounded front grille, which gives it a rich look. However, from the sides and rear end, the Ertiga is one with an appearance that stands out against its competition. Teardrop-shaped lamps on the front and shorter height give the Ertiga a slight edge over the Enjoy, though it can be said that looks are always subjective.

Prices of the Maruti Ertiga Petrol start at 5.99 Lakh while Rs. 7.4 lakh is the price for the base diesel version (prices in the ex-showrooms of New Delhi). Similarly, the Enjoy is expected to start at a price of Rs. 6.5 lakh, while its diesel variant is anticipated to be priced at Rs. 8 lakh. However, prices of the Enjoy are speculative and General Motors may decide to price the vehicle even more competitively, so as to market it as a better value for money proposition compared to Maruti Ertiga.
