General Motors India added another feather to its cap by launching the Chevrolet Enjoy in the country on May 9, 2013. This is a striking example of the aggressive growth plans that the company has in store for its Indian operations. The aim of launching the Enjoy was to provide customers a premium Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) which can be used to travel in comfort and style, along with being affordable to own.

Interestingly, the Enjoy has been launched at a low starting price of Rs. 5.49 lakh for the petrol version and goes up to Rs. 7.99 lakh for the top end diesel version (ex-showroom, Delhi). Its closest competitor Maruti Ertiga has a starting price of Rs. 5.98, for its petrol variant. This will give the Chevrolet MPV a distinct cost advantage, as well as an ownership benefit since it has greater amount of internal space than the Ertiga. The vehicle is available in eight different variant models, four of which are petrol-powered and four are diesel-powered.

The Enjoy has been fitted by new-generation Smartech petrol and diesel engines from General Motors India. The diesel version is powered by a 1.3 litre unit and delivers a maximum power of 76 bhp and a torque of 188 Nm. In comparison, the petrol version comes with a 1.4 litre unit, which delivers a higher power output of 103 bhp and 131 Nm of torque. Vehicles have been designed with engine technologies complying with Bharat Stage IV emission norms.

In the Indian market, the Enjoy will compete against the Maruti Ertiga, Mahindra Xylo and Nissan Evalia. While the Ertiga is close in terms of pricing to the Enjoy, the other two are more expensive. Only the Enjoy and the Ertiga comes with both petrol an diesel fuel options, while the Xylo and Evalia have only diesel variants.

Speaking at the launch of the Enjoy, General Motors India President and Managing Director Lowell Paddock said, “We believe this is the right product for India in one of the market’s fastest-growing segments. As a new leader in the segment, we expect the Enjoy to be very popula. Its introduction is another sign of our commitment to make Chevrolet the most preferred vehicle brand in India.”
