      Chevrolet Bolt EV to enter production

      General Motors, the American automaker had unveiled the Chevrolet Bolt EV at the last month’s North American International Auto Show And now, Chevrolet has confirmed that they will build the “next generation electric vehicle” the Bolt EV. The company plans to develop the Bolt EV at the Orion Assembly factory near Detroit. The decision comes after consumers asked for a production version of the car and the GM North America President Alan Batey believes that the Bolt EV has the "potential to completely shake up the status quo for electric vehicles."

      The company is planning to keep its price competitive, and the car is expected to be priced at $30,000 (around Rs. 18.6 lakh). The fully electric vehicle is expected to offer an estimated range of 200 miles (322 km). An investment of $160 million is given in the Orion assembly factory for the production of the Bolt EV, while an additional $40 million funding is given to the Pontiac Metal Center facility for tooling and equipment.

      Chevrolet hasn’t revealed much detail about the Bolt EV; however, the company says that it will reveal more details soon. Based on GM’s Gamma small car global platform, the Bolt will enter production in October next year. The same platform will also underpin the next generation Sonic.
