Caterham, England based manufacturer of lightweight sports car, has exposed that the company has offered its first SP/300.R racing vehicle to United States of America. The new vehicle invented by Caterham is a track only racing vehicle, which is assimilated with a 2.0 litre supercharged Ford Duratec engine that generates maximum power of 302 bhp at 7,500 rpm. Since Caterham SP/300.R is a racing car, it is provided with a Push-to-pass button, which delivers an additional of 29 bhp of power to the car for a small duration. The engine of this car smoothly accelerates from 0-100 kmph within a short span of 2.8 seconds, which is further followed to a top speed of 290 kmph.

The new offering from Caterham has a length, width and height of 4200 mm, 1700 mm and 1015 mm, respectively with a wheelbase of 2600 mm. The car is provided with a lightweight body design, which incorporates Lola-developed aluminium honeycomb monocoque technology and seven-piece lightweight polyurethane body system. Owing to these techniques, SP/300.R weighs 545 kg, which is considerably less than other cars of same platform.

While describing SP/300.R, the officials of Caterhams said, “As with all Caterhams, the SP/300.R has first and foremost been developed as a true driver's car. It doesn't matter how fast a car is, if it isn't rewarding to drive it will never be truly thrilling. However, the SP/300.R fuses all of Caterham's core brand values such as durability, ease of use, practicality for racing and low maintenance costs with Lola's technologically advanced approach to research and development. Working alongside Lola Cars, we have the perfect alchemy of British engineering superiority and rich motorsport heritage to deliver a lightweight, minimalist product that amplifies Colin Chapman's Seven philosophy, yet conveys everything Caterham and Lola stand for today.”

The first batch of Caterham's SP/300.R will be delivered to American Le Mans Series (ALMS) LMP1 champion team, Dyson Racing. Caterham cars is a official distributor of the company in US, which is counted among the longest running and most successful privateer racing squads of America. Since it made debut in 1974, the team participated in IMSA GTO and GTP, GRAND-AM, SCCA Trans-Am, CART and Indy Lights championships.

The US design of SP/300.R and Lola-designed vehicle will be produced as per the details suitable for the market. However, the final assembly of vehicle is planned at Dyson Racing's facility, Poughkeepsie, New York, followed with the delivery of company’s first vehicle, which will be completely manufactured by Caterham at its Dartford facility.

The delivery of Dyson Racing's SP/300.R was made on 23rd April, which is being used as a demonstrator vehicle by Caterham, whereas rest will be delivered to US in a couple of few weeks.

It must be noted that Dyson Racing is deeply concerned in the development process of SP/300.R, since the company send off Guy Smith, the former Le Mans 24 Hours winner and Peter Weston, the Technical Director at the test sessions of Caterham during the process of improvement.

David Ridley, International Business Development Manager, Caterham Cars, said, “Working with a very successful outfit like Dyson Racing has been a pleasure. They will be first to receive the SP/300.R and we are confident that their customers will love the car's performance and low running costs. Dyson's expertise in the US market is second-to-none and, even before a fully-built car has arrived on U.S. shores, demand has been strong. Dyson further said, “The SP/300.R is an amazing car. It mirrors the technology and the appearance of the Lola Le Mans prototypes that our team campaigns in the American Le Mans Series, but has been carefully-designed to be affordable.”
