The votes are in and the winners out! Yes, a list of the top 5 most popular reviews as seen and read by our faithful and beloved readers has been compiled and you can read about it below. This year’s list again features the usual big hitters in the market. However, there is also a new entrant and its arrival in this list should surprise you.
The top 5 list
5. Hyundai Grand i10
The Hyundai Grand i10 got a facelift this year which was, in essence, a mid-life update for the South Korean automaker's popular hatchback. The update saw it get a new diesel engine, updated feature list and some new design elements both on the inside and outside. The car has been a major success for Hyundai and averages anywhere from 12,000 to 14,000 units every month.
4. Maruti Suzuki ignis
It’s the new bug-eyed boy from the Japanese automaker and is the smallest car that is sold through the Nexa chain. The design might have a ‘hate it or love it’ appeal but underneath that odd shape is the standard formula of heavy features, space, efficient engines and of course, that Maruti badge which has conjured up a legend in terms of reliability.
3. Honda WR-V
Finally, figuring out that compact SUVs are where the big bucks are, Honda took the plunge with the Jazz based WR-V. It has been an instant success for the Japanese automaker and in our review and comparison with other compact SUVs it is not hard to see why. Along with the Honda City, it has become one of the stable volume models for the automaker.
2. Tata Tigor
In the world of compact sedans, Tata has a special place as it was the manufacturer that brought about the creation of the body style with the Indigo eCS. It began a new revolution last year when it introduced the Tigor (codenamed Kite 5). It is a compact sedan for the entry-level B-segment and is the first of its kind in this part of the market.
1. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Where the Tigor may have been a revolution in terms of compact sedans entering new segments, the Dzire is the car that popularised the design altogether. It entered a new generation earlier this year and within six months, the car has already hit one lakh units! We have driven it, compared it with other compact sedans and even looked at how it fares up against the Tata Nexon.
