Lamborghini is currently working hard to develop carbon fibre connecting rods. Everybody is aware of the advantages this element presents, which means that it is extremely effective for components like the con rod.

It is obvious here that the car maker is looking to boost performance. Till date, carbon fibre has been in use in a variety of components like panels, chassis, wheels and spoilers, to name a few. With this element inducted into con rods, benefits include better performance due to the lighter construction and increased strength. The ability to withstand forces that the engine bears, will also improve.

Presently, Lamborghini’s Advanced Composite Laboratory in Seattle, enables them to develop forged carbon fibre technology to construct these rods. A mixture of carbon fibres and resin is put through immense heat and pressure. Post this three minute forging process, only a thorough finishing is required. The traditional method includes baking a carbon mould for 12 hours!

Lamborghini's head of research and development, Maurizio Reggiani, said, "I hope that in one-and-a-half years, we are able to finish development and say that this can be a part which can go into one of our future engines."
