Spy shots from the United States suggest that Honda has begun testing its Civic saloon in the Si trim.

This comes shortly after reports revealed that Honda is expected to debut its Civic Coupe Si sometime later in 2017. Even though the car was heavily camouflaged, the protruding front end shows a striking similarity with the design cues of the 2017 Honda Civic Si Prototype concept, other than the obvious lower rear spoiler in the four-door saloon. This concept was showcased earlier at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

While the Civic Si concept is powered by the 1.5-litre four cylinder turbocharged engine that currently powers the range, this iteration may be heavily retuned to produce more power. The Si saloon is rumoured to make in excess of 200bhp so that it can contend with hot hatches likes like the Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen’s GTI.

Though Honda USA has not revealed when the Civic Si saloon will roll into showrooms, expect it to debut sometime in early 2018. Stay tuned to CarTrade for Honda’s plans in the time to come.
