Maruti Suzuki aims to roll out its Bharat Stage (BS 4) compliant models in India. The company shall complete the set task in a phased manner this year as it has a huge product portfolio and launching all compliant models will not be possible. “We have a staggered implementation plan. The deadline is April 1 for implementing the new emission norms. With the number of models we have, it may not be possible for us to launch all of them with Euro 4 norms at one time,” Mr I.V. Rao, Executive Officer, Research and Development, Maruti Suzuki, said.
The Gurgaon engine plant will assist the company in launching these new models as per the new emission norms. Currently, Maruti A-Star is the only compliant model in its product portfolio. The company is going to adopt BS4 emission norms for 11 cities beginning next fiscal,while the remaining cities will be upgraded to BS 3.Maruti Suzuki said the Ritz will be fitted with a K series 1.2-litre petrol engine with the Bharat Stage 4 emission norms.
“The K12M engine further strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s efforts for fuel efficient, green engine technology for customers in India,” said Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Shinzo Nakanishi,said.
