The year 2013 has been great for luxury car makers as far as the Indian market is concerned. On one hand where companies in mass car segment have experienced poor sales figures, luxury vehicle manufacturers have registered tremendous growth. Notably, 2013 has seen the competition between German heavyweights BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi go to another level. In the first half of 2013, Mercedes-Benz took the market by storm when it launched a bevy of models in India. Other companies have followed suit, introducing a number of models in India. BMW has experienced a relatively quieter 2013 as compared to rivals, something that it is willing to change in coming months. After launching 1 Series and upgraded version of 5 Series, BMW, as per sources, is expected to bring in the Z4 Roadster model in India. Although nothing has been confirmed, sources suggest that this model could make its way to showrooms by the month of November.

BMW Z4 Roadster is a highly acclaimed model that has earned plaudits from customers and critics in international market. When launched in India, this car might come with short overhangs that will combine with low seats and stretched bonnet to give it a stylish look. Exteriors of this car are likely to include kidney grille along with powerful wheel arches. Experts feel that Z4 Roadster is going to attract a high number of customers due to its low-slung appearance and hardtop. Reports claim that the USP of this car will be the folding of aluminium roof shells, which takes place in just twenty seconds, implementing a coupe-style silhouette.

The international version of this car is available in three variants, which includes two 3.0-litre powertrains and one 2.0-litre engine versions. BMW Z4 Roadster version equipped with 2.0-litre engine has the capacity of generating an output of around 335.4 bhp. Nothing has been confirmed regarding technical specifications of the new BMW Z4 Roadster model. However, sources close to this development have claimed that the sDrive35i variant of this car is going to be offered in India. This version runs on a six-cylinder 3.0-litre unit that generates top power of 301.8 bhp, according to sources. Weighing over 1500 kg, this sports car has the capability of reaching 100 kmph from scratch in just 5.1 seconds. Critics in the international market have appreciated this model for its lightweight body, which has been made using magnesium and aluminium crankcase.

Industry experts feel that the demand for sports cars is increasing in India day by day. This is the main reason why so many international luxury brands are introducing their models in India. When launched in India, BMW Z4 Roadster, rumoured to be priced in the proximity of Rs. 70 lakh, will compete with the likes of Porsche Boxter and Audi TT.
