      BMW X3 and X5 now available with petrol power

      BMW India has launched petrol variants of the X3 and X5 in India. The X3 is available in the xLine with a price tag of Rs 54.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) while the X5 is available in the Design Pure Experience and priced at Rs 73.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Both the SUVs are now available with options of both petrol and diesel engine in India and are being locally produced at BMW Plant in Chennai.

      The X3 xDrive28i gets a 2.0-litre straight four twin turbo petrol engine putting out 242bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The petrol variant of the X5 is called the X5 xDrive35i and is powered by a 3.0-litre inline six turbocharged engine which produces 297bhp of power and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The engine is mated to a new eight-speed Sport Steptronic automatic transmission

      Both the X3 and X5 can accelerate from 0 -100 kmph in just 6.5seconds and are fitted with BMW’s xDrive system as standard. Both the cars the German automaker’s Efficient Dynamic features as standard as well like the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) auto start-stop, Eco Pro driving mode, brake-energy regeneration, intelligent lightweight construction, electronic power steering, and 50:50 weight distribution.

      Inside the SUVs, the iDrive is integrated into the centre-mounted 8.8-inch of the X3’s infotainment system, with a high-definition colour display, and a rear view camera. The X5 being the bigger sibling gets a BMW Navigation system professional with 3D maps with integrated GPS, iDrive Touch with handwriting recognition and touch screen, high-end surround sound system from Harman Kardon, and a rear-view camera.

      The closest rival to the X3 is the Mercedes-Benz GLC which already has an option of a petrol engine. The X5 on the other hand takes on the GLE which is offered with a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine in the GLE400 model.
