In keeping with the Chinese customers’ demand for long wheelbase cars, BMW has prepared a stretched version of its X1 for the local market. This forthcoming model, set to be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show, has been spotted completely undisguised.
While the regular latest-gen X1 is 4,439mm long and features a wheelbase spanning 2,670 mm, this long wheelbase version is expected to be around 100mm longer. Engine options, meanwhile, would start with a 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine with a front-wheel drive layout. The most expensive variant, on the other hand, will get a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with around 257bhp of power. All engine options will come paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The X1 long-wheelbase will be available in China either as 18Li, 20Li or 25Li. Besides BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz are also preparing to showcase long wheelbase versions of their cars in Beijing.
