BMW will begin production of i8 hybridsupercarfrom April 2014, deliveries will however commence from June this year. The hybridsupercarwill first be made available for sale in European auto markets and other overseas markets. India will also get the new i8, rumours suggest that BMW could bring the hybridsupercarby end of thisyear. BMWunveiled i8 prototype at the Frankfurt Motor Show held in 2009, it was also showcased recently at the 2014 Auto Expo in India by Master BasterSachinTendulkar.
BMW i8 is packed with a hybrid engine that includes a 1.5 litre, three pot, gasoline mill which is good for 231Bhpof pinnacle power and 320Nmof maximum torque output. Besides this an electric motor is also befitted that generates 131Bhp. It takes i8 4.4 seconds to reach 100kmphfrom nil and touch top speed of 250kmph. Copious use of carbon fibre components has enabled to confine weight of the vehicle to 1485kgs. A lithium-ion-high voltage battery is also included in theeDrivesystem.
BMW will also bestow laser head lamps to the new i8 hybridsupercar, which are said to offer enhanced energy by 30 per cent as compared to the standard LED head lamps. Laser lights however are optional and are likely to be made available by the end of this year.
BMW has already started acceptingpre-orders for the vehicle; in-fact the company has received an influx of bookings for the i8, surpassing initial production run.
BMW is a renowned name in the luxury car segment; the German car maker has recently been ranked highest in the after sales satisfaction and customer satisfaction survey conducted by J.D Power Asia pacific. The company was also awarded for the same in an award function conducted by J>D Power Asia Pacific in New Delhi.
