Sources have revealed that a BMW i8 with slight changes to its rear end has been spotted in Germany. This is the prototype that has a more powerful engine.
What sets this car apart from the current version is the opaque rear engine cover and the cooling vents that have been incorporated into the rear design. What also adds to the set of new features is the use of larger AP Racing brakes as shown in the picture. All of these traits strongly point in one direction. The new car will pack more horsepower than what is available as of now.
There have been rumours that the new i8 could see a power increase of 10 per cent in addition to an upgraded gearbox and revised electric motor. These updates could bring the power close to 420bhp. However, reports now say that the carmaker may be contemplating a performance-oriented variant called the i8S. This variant may be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder 320bhp engine or a 3.0-litre six-cylinder 480bhp engine. It will be mated to an upgraded electric motor and a new transmission.
