BMW, the well appreciated German auto maker, has pulled the curtains from its much awaited 2015 R1200RS and R1200R motorcycles. Both these bikes are designed on the tubular steel bridge frame, which features the boxer engine as a supporting component. It must be noted that the R1200R is styled like a naked streetfighter bike, while R1200RS sports twin headlamps and an aerodynamically styled fairing.

Interestingly, in the R1200RS model, RS stands for ‘reise’ and ‘sport’, i.e. travel and sport. These abbreviations describe the true on-road purpose of R1200RS. Reportedly, R1200RS happens to be the successor of original 1976 R100RS, which happens to be the first true sports touring bike. In order to give the R1200RS its true identity, as some believe it to be an S1000RR, the engine of this bike has two cylinders sticking out through the side. On the other hand, the R1200R is a naked bike and shares many styling cues from the Concept Roadster – a bike which was showcase by the auto maker during early 2014.

Coming to its technical configuration, both R1200R and R1200RS come equipped with a new liquid-cooled boxer engine, which churns out a maximum power of 125 bhp with a highest torque of 125 Nm. Reportedly, this engine is also fitted in the R1200GS, R1200GS Adventure and R1200RT. Apart from a powerful engine, the bikes feature some of the state-of-the-art advancements like Anti-lock Braking System, Automatic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment, banking detection and different riding modes. Offering a sporty look to the instrument cluster, there is an analogue speedometer and a digital display.

To attract the buyers, R1200RS is expected to be offered in two different paint schemes, namely blue metallic/Light grey metallic and a grey metallic matte. On the other hand, R1200R will be offered in three color options, namely Cordoba blue non-metallic, light white non-metallic and grey metallic.
