The luxury car segment has been predominantly been led by Mercedes Benz till now. Now India is set to witness more entrants in this segment. BMW has already sold 1387 units last year against its target of 1000 units. This year is plans to sell at least 2000 units. The good news is it has already sold 800 units so far.

BMW is opening new dealerships in various cities of India as a part of its expansion plan. It showcased its M3 coupe in Kolkata at the opening of its new dealership in the city, OSL Prestige. The luxury coupe is priced around Rs 75 lakh – 1 crore and runs on 3999cc V8 petrol engine.

"Kolkata is clearly one of India's most historic and vibrant cities representing a great confluence between traditional values and modern society and hence is a important market for BMW. With our partnership with OSL Prestige we will be able to reach out to our customers in the right manner and consistently provide them with the best products and services from BMW India that are at par with international BMW standards," says Peter Kronschnable, President, BMW India.

BMW has already raised its manufacturing capacity in India at its Chennai plant. However, there are no plans to open another manufacturing unit as the volumes are low. BMW also manufactures Rolls Royce and Mini but the plans to launch Mini have been delayed after the market assessment in India. The company is also looking at sourcing components from India.
