The German luxury carmaker, BMW AG Germany, is planning to introduce five more new models in India. BMW marks its presence in India as BMW India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the world’s largest luxury car maker.

BMW India has recently launched BMW 7 Series in India with BMW 750Li model already available in the market. The bookings for the new model have already begun and the car will be available next month. The company shall launch the other two variants of the 7 series later this year. It will also launch SUV X6 and X3 diesel model later this year.

“We have lined-up ambitious launches for India to increase competition. We are hopeful of becoming the segment leader sometime this year. Besides the 3 and 7 Series, there will be a few more surprises during the year at regular intervals to capture the top slot,” said BMW India President Peter Kronschnabl.

BMW India is quickly closing the gap with Mercedes Benz in India. It has sold 2908 cars in 2008 as against sales of 3625 cars by Mercedes Benz. It sold 2046 vehicles in 2007 while Mercedes sold 2395 vehicles in the same year. Sales of both the companies have witnessed robust growth in India as the luxury market segment grew by nearly 23 percent in the country. Strong sales competition from BMW has forced Mercedes to change its marketing strategy in India where it had enjoyed monopoly for a long time.
