According to the company resources, BMW had been planning to bring Mini to India. It had undertaken a feasibility study for the same to estimate the car market in India for the car. The results for the same are out. BMW does not plan to import its Mini to India anytime next year at least.

BMW said in a statement: “Last week, we have taken a decision to scrap plans to bring Mini by 2009. After the feasibility study we had undertaken, it is clear to us that it will not be viable to bring the car that soon.”

However, this does not mean that Indian roads shall never experience Mini ever in future. The plans are simply delayed till any further notice. BMW adds that it shall re-look at the issue in next one or one and half year and assess the market again.

BMW was planning to import Mini as CBU or completely built unit. The currently heavy duties on completely built units made the car too expensive at Rs 20 lakh. There are already several luxury car models available in the market in that price segment.

The company shall roll out its 3X and 5X series from its Chennai plant soon. It also plans to import its 4.8 liter X5 in the Indian market which would be priced around Rs 80 lakh.
