BMW has imported a single example of the 5 Series sedan in India this month right after the global launch of the new-generation car in October. We suspect this car to be the new-generation 5 Series as the current 5er is already being built in India.

BMW has imported the 520d limousine, the highest selling variant of the 5 Series in India. The 520d gets the 1995cc B47 turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine that develops 190bhp of power and 400Nm of torque and comes mated to an eight-speed automatic torque converter gearbox.

The seventh-generation 5 Series is built on the same OKL platform as the flagship 7 Series which is built with carbon-fibre reinforced polymer, magnesium, aluminium and high-strength steel to make it light and still have the required rigidity. It also gets the latest sixth-generation BMW iDrive with gesture controls and the electrical system has been upgraded to a 48V system just like its German counterpart – Mercedes-Benz.

The 2017 BMW 5 Series must have been brought to India as a part of their global testing procedures or for India-specific testing and homologation. All we know is that the new 2017 5 series launch in India is around the corner and might happen in the first half of 2017 itself.
