BMW i8, the future sports car from the house of the esteemed German manufacturer has started reaching Indian dealerships. Incidentally, the company is set to launch the car next month and the preparations are going great guns. The first model was seen at a Mumbai showroom recently. Before this, the car was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo in 2014. Apart from the Expo, the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept was showcased in Mumbai. This was done for the purpose of making an appearance in the Tom Cruise starring Mission Impossible 4. The German company is also planning to launch special iDealers in the metropolitans to retail the hybrid models, the i8 and i3, which will come later on.
BMW i8 also marks the rise of a new era for sports cars, which has a hybrid futuristic drivetrain as well as outstanding looks. The car is powered by dual engines – a BMW Twin Power Turbo 1.5-litre tri-cylinder petrol mill, which pulls out 231 hp. The electric motor is capable of generating a power of 131 hp. Together the two units are capable of churning out a total of 362 hp, which will make the i8 dash to 100 kilometres per hour from ignition in a matter of 4.4 seconds. The combination of battery powered mill and the petrol engine can take the total speed to 250 kilometres per hour. Also, the i8 has utilised carbon fibre extensively, which has made its weight a mere 1490 kilograms.
