BMW has ceased the production of the 6 Series Coupe in February owing to poor sales of the Coupe body style compared to Gran Coupe and Convertible.

BMW 6 Series Coupe silently ceases production

It was reported earlier that the four-door 4 Series Gran Coupe was the highest selling car in the range, and same is the case with the 6 Series now. With the Coupe losing its charm to the practical Gran Coupe, BMW might have considered it prudent to cease production of the current 6 Series until the new generation arrives.

Speaking of the new generation, BMW has plans of introducing a new product line-up by 2020 including new electric vehicles and mid-life updates to current-generation vehicles. Meanwhile, the word on the streets is that the 6 Series range will be reduced to make way for new 8 Series. The test mule of the all-new 8 Series (or the new 6 Series) was spotted undergoing cold weather testing a few months ago. Interestingly, there are also rumours that the new generation 5 Series GT will be replaced with a more spacious, and better looking 6 Series Gran Turismo.

What’s certain is that BMW is on an interesting model offensive for the next few years, with an equal balance of electric, performance and luxury vehicles. As far as the 6 Series Gran Coupe is concerned, you can still buy them from dealers with available stocks, or in its home country, Germany, where it is reportedly still in production for an undetermined period. The 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Convertible are still in production though.
